So I am wrapping up my pseudo-overhaul on my 22RE in my new 89 Runner. I pulled the engined and put a new cylinder head, cam, timing kit, water pump, oil pump, etc. from engnbldr. I am having some second guesses to my work getting it put back in. I rented an engine hoist so I was in a hurry to put it in (hourly rates suck). I have now realized that I forgot to put the oil pick up in before I bolted up the pan and put the engine in. So now I have to drop the front diff to take the pan off and fix that mess. My question comes in with the clutch. I just bolted up the flywheel, pressure plate and clutch straight up without an alignment tool. Is it safe to say it is aligned right if I got everything to mate up fine with the transmission? Can I just try to shift through the gears to test things out? I'm just nervous that I missed something since I obviously forgot all about that stupid oil pick up tube. TIA

why no alignment tool???? it should come with EVERY kit.


but i guess if it went it fine...it should be good?

I didn't replace the clutch. I was just replacing the rear main seal while I had it out. I just bought the truck and the guy didn't have the alignment tool from when he did the clutch.

As long as they transmission mated to the engine fine then everything should be good. I replaced my main seal without the alignment tool also.

Well I guess that gives a little more peace of mind. Any tell tale signs of horrid fubar I should look out for?

Pick the back end off the ground and spin the engine with the tranny in gear, if it turns the tires, everything's fine and in place, doesn't turn the tires, take apart and redo.

Okay, so I have the the engine all buttoned up and she runs great! The only bad part is I have something crazy going on with my clutch pedal. At first, I wasn't getting any resistance at all from the pedal. I bleed the lines and there was a TON of air in there and the old fluid was horrible looking. Now when I press in the clutch, I can only get it half way to the floor and it won't go any further. It looks like the slave cylinder isn't pushing the piston against the fork (I can wiggle the piston around even with the clutch "depressed"). Is that a sign I need a new slave cylinder or is it something else?
