Is a PITA. I've gotten the tint layer off, but the adhesive layer is baked on and not coming off very easily. I've been using razorblades to take most of it off, but the last bits are not coming off. I've tried using GooGone, with no effect.
Any ideas?

I never have that window up. Ever. Nor do I use the a/c. There's no power already lol, I can't use it knowing I'm draining even more. The reason I'm taking it all off is because it looked like crap already so it needed to be gone.

try isopropyl alcohol or acetone. or nail polish remover..

or try a Mr. clean MAGIC ERASER i cant find something i cant clean with one of those.. it will take the tar off the street.. its taken it off my car..

Ok, so you can peal the film off but there will be the glue left over. The easist and fastest way, peal the tint off with a razer blade, then take a rag with paint thinner on it and start rubing it over some part, then take the razer blade and scrap it off.

Or if you have alot of time, get a steamer and start in a corner, go slow and it will take the glue with it.

use urethane grade reducer. You will have all of it off in about a minute and a half. That is what i use to take tint off seeing as it is right there handy since i work in a body shop.

Man go to an auto parts store like oreilly's or an auto body supply shop and buy a 3m eraser wheel. Put it in a drill and go to town. I stripped my front two windows and my rear window on my 1st gen 4runner in less than an hour. It will make a lot of dust but it vacuums right out. Seriously though, this is by far the easiest way to remove old tint that I have ever seen. Razor blade and a can of brake cleaner. Use it all the time, havent found anything that works better.

oh man that sucks...We remove tint on occasion at work, usually other peoples poor or old and faded jobs. if your lucky most of the glue goes with the tint otherwise you can get a special tint and decal glue remover. Ask a local detail shop or tint shop. we usually charge 40 to remove 2 windows.

A trick that I used (and I swear it was from yotatech, maybe not) was to use ammonia (very cheap from Dollar general, Big lots, family dollar etc) in a spray bottle. Doing this in a WELL VENTILATED AREA IS A MUST!!! Hose the window surface down, then stick a cut open trash bag on the wet window surface, "sealing" the ammonia in. Let bake in sun, come back and all the goo and tint just peels/scrapes right off.

I've done this twice with great success. Good luck.

This reminds me, (off topic kind of) I went to my local ACE hardware to get one of those to remove the decals on the body and I asked for that eraser wheel and I seriously talked to EVERY employee there and they all looked at me like I was retarded. None of them had ever heard of a tool like that. The same thing happened to me at the local Checker/O'Rieley. IGNORANCE!!


That's what I ended up doing. It was tedious and a few chunks of my defroster came with the tint and adhesive, but I got it done while listening to El Rushbaugh talk.

you can get reducer at autozone, orielys, or an autobody supply store. Eraser wheels too. But it is a really quick process to pull the old tint off, put some reducer on a rag, wipe on the sticky residue and use another clean cloth to wipe off. You dont even have to use a razor blade.

x3 on the ammonia.

I use a window cleaner called "Invisible glass", with ammonia in it. Spray enough so that the glue is wet, scrape off with razer blade. I did my windows a few months ago. Was pretty painless.
