Rear Tailgate Window problems on 1st gen 4Runners

87 4runner, just replaced the rear tailgate with a new one with a power window motor and window, all in working condition....cannot get the thing to roll up using the switch. Is there a fuse or something obvious im missing? A ground possibly. Also, running lights arent working and i cant figure those out either.

hope this helps

is the rear wiper stitch on? if so turn it off and check. if its still not working try pulling your plug for the switch (window) and jump the connections to a ground. if that still doesn't work, check your relay. also try hot wiring the window motor.
the plug should look like this

x = test the ones with the x.
==x

Yes, there's a relay beside the tailgate on the driver's side. Here's a good writeup on how to fix it. You gotta learn how to use the search function on this website.

There are a number of reasons why the rear window can stop working.

Check your wiper first to see that it's seated properly, and make sure you've plugged stuff in properly and not pinched any wires in the regulator in the process.

I've fixed a number of these rear window issues, and so far I haven't had to touch control units at all.

The motor is 12 volts, so just hook up a battery to it to prove to yourself you assembled it properly.

Please learn to use our "search" forum as this is a common problem and you would have found many ideas and they would have all mentioned this link:

1. check and make sure you don't have the window lock switch on
2. top bolt switch, near rear tire on driver side, needs a bolt pushing down on it
3. tail gate needs to be closed, there is a latch switch (door has to be locked)
4. you can unplug the wiper wires in the corner where you disconnect the washer tube,
the window will work with this unhooked.
5. the relay is just pass the seat belt on the driver side
