Im looking for something to get the rust out my tank. Its not rotted through but theres plenty of rust in there. I have to check the sender but the first screw i tried already broke off.

Yikes on the frame rust! Wouldn't have guessed that it would be that bad looking at the body. Whats the plan for the frame rails?

Welcome to the forum!

Going to look around a little for another good rear frame section to section in. If i cant find something then ill template it and cut the rot out to try and slow that part of it then plate it and blast and paint as much as possible.
Yea the body is solid. I found some rust on the bottom of the doors but its not major yet. Tailgate is ate up pretty bad at the bottom all the way across so im not sure what im going to there just yet

Welcome to YotaTech!
Wow that is a suprise! Body looks so good compared to the frame!

If you cant find a good section, and know how to/have access to a welder, then some flat iron, and angle iron could be your friend! My cousin and i repaired a frame on his old Woody Wagon, and had great success, lots of cutting/grinding... But i would say the parts we patched up are stronger than the original ever was!

Good luck! Other than the frame, your trucjk looks great!

Yea i can do the welding a d have access to a mig. A friend up the road has his own shop and has a heliarc machine also. I have all the tools to patch it but id really like to find a rear section to just put in.
Ive got to travel to Claysville, PA this week so friday when i get back home im going to start cleaning the tank and pick up the fuel pump hanger. But my hold up is i tried 1 bolt on the sender and broke it off so im going to soak them good with kroil before i leave today. Going to try the white vinegar to clean the tank if the sender screws will come out

Inside the tank looks like rust but when cleaned it will not have any pitting in it. It is a chemical build up in my opinion. On top of the tank could be rust holes as mud sits on top of the tank and rust it up. Just do some firm taps on top of the tank to find out.

To clean a tank I use white vinegar and then seal the tank with Red Kote. On my build links below on the first post of my 88 Runner I have some info on cleaning tanks and on the other builds as well. There are other ways of cleaning as well. It takes a few days.

Other then the frame that is a great looking truck. Welcome to Yotatech.

Yes Terry your thread was actually the one i read up on. Ive used vinegar to clean rusty tools but never a gas tank. Hopefully the sender screws will come out so i can clean it. I dont really want to fill it with water and soda with the sender in place. May not hurt if i hurry and get some wd40 or al55 on it though!!??!!
