Ramsey Winch re8000

A friend of mine recently gave me a Ramsey RE8000 Winch. This thing is huge and I'm wondering if anyone on here has every dealt with installing one of these. I have some ideas about how to make it work, but I'm trying to decide whether to fab up brackets to hold this or go with something a little newer and a little smaller.

here is a ling to the PDF on Ramsey's page:
http://www.ramseypdfs.com/owners_sea...0%2012000X.pdf

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I took a look at the pdf and need to point something out. The 8000lb rating is only for the first layer (bottom) of pull. Keep this in mind since you can easily got a lot heavier than the 4800lbs that it's rated for in the 5th layer if you're stuck bad or carrying a lot of gear and need a short pull to get unstuck. Lots of folks by an 8000lb winch and are pissed that it doesn't pull 8000lbs on the top layer. Also take a look at some good recovery gear like gloves, D rings, a snatch block, 30' pull strap and a tree strap and figure those into the cost of mounting.

Heck since it's free I say find a good winch bumper and mount that pig!! Nice score!

Oh and a winch is better than a come-a-long and chains..............

Try one of these mounts from Trail-Gear (about midway down the page)
http://www.trail-gear.com/toy-bumper.html
-it is designed for 84-95

I used one on my '81, welds or bolts to the front frame and is pretty stout, you know it will work, than you can fab up a bumper design around it to suit your needs..

Now I just need to convince the wife I need a winch....

edit: well after looking at the PDF am thinking that Ramsey won't work...thought Ramsey had a similar mounting surface like Warn and others...Free is a good price but can sometimes be a headache..

Dude if you're SAS'd on tires that big I"m guessing that you go through things that most of us run from..... your wife might be right.

Oh and looking at those pictures again how in the heck do you plan to wheel with no front drive shaft? Tell the wife you need the winch. *grin*

I wasn't trying to tell you not to install it, by all means if you can make it work then do so.

I did (and am still doing) several months of research on which winch is which with regards to planetary gears, pull strength and gear ratios, motor size and amp draw, pull capacity from the bottom to the top layer of cable etc. In my case I want to get the most for my hard earned money, in your case you are money ahead. Mount that thing and use it.

I was agreeing about ocdropzone's sas'd beast. I'll probably figure out how to get it on the truck after i remove the stock bumper. I totally agree I'm money ahead, the original price on that thing was 1200 bucks.
