Radiator fan blew up????

Radiator fan blew up????
So i just got done putting new HG's, all the belts, new timing belt, tensioner and idler pulleys, wires, plugs, ect.
Oh and im new here. Thanks to GallantGS with very fast help on the distributer issue i had.
It started up great! Then when i went to increase the rpms after about 4 min in idle, i hear a POP!!!! then pieces of stuff hitting everywhere....
I got out to find that the ring on the fan blades was completely shreded off, and the shroud was cracked and parts of it missing. I had just put all the bolts on and made sure i had everything tight and in the right spot...
Anyone else have this happen???? Tried to post pics but it keeps coming up with an red X, tried different types of url's, gave up.
AND no i didn't have any tools in the way, that was the first thing i looked for.

Must be common, there is no junk yard around me that has a fan left for the 3vze, or the shroud. haha i need to get my pics up. im working on it. ITS IN A MILLION PIECES.
Dealer wants 109.99 for fan and 99.99 for shroud. What a joke.

I had the alternator fan shred itself on my (used to own) vw scirocco- found two holes in the hood, some metal in the firewall and my passenger side headlight was busted with a hole clear through. Good thing I wasn't left hand drive, I suppose.
But yeah, fans do grenade.
