Quick question regarding valve adjustment

I've always stuck the feeler gauge between the cam lobe and the rocker arm when adjusting the valve lash on my 22R-E, but today I noticed that people usually stick it between the top of the valve and the rocker arm instead. Does it make a difference?

I wouldn't do it. Why score the cam surface up?
