i have a 86 toyota pickup. with a 3 in body lift. the shocks are shot and i need to get some new shocks. I use the truck to play in the mud climb the sand dunes(alittle) and a daily driver. It also has IFS. what are the best shock i can get for replacement shocks at a decent price.

Since all you have is a body lift just go search for regular length shocks for your truck.

2 / 4wd? Well either way makes little difference. You've only got a body lift so you're looking at stock replacement shocks.

Bilstein are about the best you can get, and from what I've heard in descending order- Bilstein, KYB, ProComp, Skyjacker, Rancho, Gabriel / Monroe stock... and that's not taking into account shocks with external reservoirs / adjustable dampening.

However you're talking about running in dunes and mud- two totally different environments with totally different requirements for shocks. So, unless you want to carry around different shocks for the different terrain, the best you could do is the best shock with adjustability of both jounce and rebound (could maybe even go into different spring / t-bar rates but that's not what you asked). And that, in my opinon, pushes you towards Bilstein or Fox, or maybe KYB or Rancho.

i think he just wants a pretty good shock for an allright price, ide just go with rancho, pretty cheap and they work

well, my argument would be that in the dunes you want a shock that will compress easily, dampening the 'whoops' but in mud you don't necessarily want a soft shock since you want your tires to be at the bottom of the mud, or at least floating well, for more traction and a little bump that causes your suspension to compress can cause you to dig the frame in to the mud and spin tires and loose traction.

Then he should prolly look into the Rancho 9000's, dial adjustable.

I ended up with KYBs on the front of my truck (IFS) and ProComp ES9000s on the back. I like the ProComps much better. Super nice ride but still controlled in the sand. I'm going to be removing the KYBs from the front and replacing with a set of ProComps.

I have ES9000's on all 4 corners. I like it, a lot. But I think the 3000's would give a better ride.

And for 30 bucks a shock, can't go wrong imo...

I just hate Rancho............. the name even bugs me
