Question about the 3.0 head bolts
Hey guys i have a question about the head bolts on the 3.0 my truck is a 1990 and the head bolts were 14mm, i purchased another used motor from the junkyard for the heads and its bolts were 12mm. i'm not sure of the year but was wondering why they went with smaller bolt heads?
p.s. i have already purchased new head bolts and am not reusing the old ones!

I pulled the heads off my 3.0 and I believe they were 12mm and you do not want to re-use them they supposdly strech when torqued down so replaceing them I heard is a must.

The 93 FSM doesn't show the bolts as a non-reusable part. That tells me they are not TTY bolts like everybody claims. http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...68cylinder.pdf

Yes, there were two different size head bolts for the V6...
I have an 89 V6 in my 94 4Runner and I didn't do anything but beat on it... And it didn't even phase that motor...
Coincidentally, I'm under the impression the 88's and 89's had them, and those motors are supposed to be night and day with needing the recall.
It's also around there the head gasket material changed...
You might just have a left over... They're great motors and if you look at the ppl that say they haven't had any trouble out of them, most times you'll find they have an 88 or 89...
ONCE AGAIN, the head gasket material WAS NOT the only thing that changed on the V6's...
