purchasing truck with power steering issue

ok im buying a 1897 22r pickup..
its having issues with the carb ..
but the prev owner said that when it did run the pwoer steering pipe was getting extremly hot and he shut down the truck.. what could cause this?? also the truck has a ground issue he said which is why it doesnt start...

its a brand new rebuilt 22r with no miles just noone hooked it up right...im going there tommorow with a camera...

i need to know where the ground are.. one from alt one from power steering pump??? one from battery?? one from engine block??

What exactly is a "power steering pipe"?

I would be leary of buying a truck fresh off a rebuild that didn't run. If he ain't smart enough to get it installed back like he took it out he probably isn't smart enough to rebuild it either.

im getting it for a parts truck price.. i trust the rebuilder of the engine 100 percent .but not whats been done to it since. i assume he ment the hose coming from the power steering pump... i have 22re trucks i can look at.. i am just going to work on the truck at the owners place for a bit and see if i can get it running..
worse comes to worse i put a 22re in it.

it has leafs in the rear which my runners dont and no rust at all which is so rare up here...

They didn't have power steering back then, they used rudders still.

LoL ^^^

The power steering hoses will get hot. Ive ran my setup without the front cooling pipe (that extends out infront of the radiator) for 2 yrs now no problems. Even in the summer. I wouldnt be to worried about it getting "hot" unless you plan on driving in the Sahara, which i wouldnt advise =p

As for it not running, well theres a ground behind the head and one on the left side near the bottom that connects the ground on the battery.

They did too- it was manually powered steering.
I'm pretty sure they didn't have 22r's or even Toyota's then either.

but anyways, what's the price going to be?

Sounds like a good idea to me. $500 and I'm sure the block/head is useable if rebuilt recently. I'd buy it unless you are looking for a dependable DD.
