So I've been working on putting a timing chain on my truck for a while now, piece by piece after work as I can. I had no problems getting the pulley bolt off with an impact nor with the timing chain cover (though that hex-head bolt on the intake was a PITA). Anyway, I got the chain on, new front seal and when I went to put the pulley bolt back into the crank, it won't turn! I can't even get it to tap. I don't know what to do. The crank isn't spinning (I put it in 5th and blocked the brakes) and there are not other obstructions to stop it from going into the crankshaft.

Has anyone had this problem? PLEASE HELP!

This may be a stupid question, but are you sure that the bolt your trying to reinstall is the right one ?.

got that front pulley slid on all the way?

do your belt groves line up?

Everything is correct, it's the right bolt and the belt grooves line up perfectly. The pulley itself went back on with ease into the new front seal, I just can't get the damn bolt to go in. I have never heard of this happening. I don't know what to do.

Howdy, I had a similar problem using the impact on my van it damaged the lug nuts' threads, maybe had to much pressure and the speed caused this, check the bolt, or try a newone. good luck.

You might have screwed up the threads. Better hope its the bolt and not the crank's threads. take a close inspection at both

Ok, it's definitely not the threads on either, both are in great shape. I tried another bolt in the crank of the same size and it didn't work either. I have never heard of anything of this nature. I am really worried. All my baby needs is the bolt so I can put the fan, radiator, and PS pump back on!

Did you clean all the threads out?? Can you visually see any damage to the threads or anything obstructing the bolt from seating into the crank threads??

Have you spun the bolt backwards to try and get it to seat?

You may want to put a thread gage on the threads. I had the same thing happen on a Mitzi Montero crank bolt. We didn't use a space when we put the bolt back in to turn the engine for timing and we managed to damage the treads on the bolt just enough that it wouldn't fit. The threads looked good, but they were pulled and had moved in relation to where they had been, but in your case you said you tried another bolt and it still didn't work. You may need to check the crank threads with the gage.

Hey guys,

Sorry it's been so long since I posted. I had a sad loss in the family and haven't much felt like posting nor working on the 'yota.

I simply went back and retapped the crank and put in a new bolt and there have been no problems since (knock on wood). Thank you to all for the help.
