Propane Setups

Need some insight on setup. Non streeter,22re auto. what'd you guys leave in *wiring hardness wise and what'd you change* can you retain the starter, alt and lights w.o the ecu or is it required? if it is i'll just rip out everything including the dash.

No smog no emissions.

Been reading, all i've seen is turbo setups but nothing about the wiring related parts.

Something to consider about propane on an RE is that the ECU controls everything about the engine: injection, timing, et al. Going to propane means ditching most everything in the engine bay connected to the computer.

It's not a simple swap by any means.

I know, my ecu is dead anyways. it's simple if your willing to get rid of all the efi crap. I just need to know what isn't controlled/ doesn't rely on the ecu to work. Other words if I have to run a new fuse block or alter the stock one. To rewire my starter, alt, ign, and lights so be it. I'm just trying to see what other have done.

I've already bought a new carb dist and coil.

Pull the ECU wires from the kick panel and cut them. Fish all of them back through the firewall and cut every one of them.

Hopefully, you'll be left with the chassis wiring you need to operate the dash- temp gauge, fuel... won't need that with propane though ,
When you get near the igniter, you may want to skip some of those since they get power from the key.

Honestly, I'd suggest getting the FSM for the truck and trace them all down. I don't think there is a definitive guide for what you're looking for... at least there's not one here on YT. One of the other boards may have more 411.

That's more like it. Got the fsm just haven't taken the time to print the wiring from the pdf file. The only things i wanna keep are the head, tail, brake lights, signals, heater, temp gonna need the normal starter, alt, ign. everything else related to the 22re is getting unhooked. then i'll wheel the ifs this way till it breaks, sas it and keep going.

got my wiring hardness out uncut and unhacked, just took out the whole dash and loosened up the intake and uncliped the injectors. hardness is for sale in the parts section( for those in need of a 86 hardness with fuse blocks. ready to plug and play)

Quick question this hit me after i got the hardness out. Will the a340h still shift normaly?

Anyone running pane and setup, your wiring from scratch? Right now my whole hardness is outta the truck. need some idea's on wiring up the Alt,Starter and I think i'll go with a switch and push button for ign. I'll leave out the lights till it's all running and driving.

For those of you venturing into Propane. And are willing to run fresh wiring etc, here's a simple diagram (I take no credit for this as it belongs to Sirmarion on pirate)

All relays are 30amp. This will get you up and running.
