Power Window Relay

Power Window Relay
I'm in the final stages of fixing, and cleaning my "new" 87 4runner. The last problem I have is the driver side window. The passanger side works fine. However, the driver side doesn't. It makes a single click sound when you push the up and nothing when you push the down button. However, it doesn't move. I tested the motor straight from the battery and it was good. I also took the switch apart and cleaned it. Everything seemed to be in working order. This leads me to believe its the relay. Where is the stinking relay. Looking at the fsm it looks like it should be right next to the fuse box in the driver kick panel. Am I missing something?

I have the electronic version. I also I looked at the electrical tech manual at the stealer ship. In the FSM there is a trouble shooting guide for the switch. However, my pin out doesn't match what is in the FSM. It seems I have an extra pin. None of the combos that they said should work worked. However, the passanger window works.

Ok, found it.
Door trim type will have 8 total pins, labeled like this:
3 () () 2 1
8 7 6 5 4
(sorry for the crude labeling, the () are black spots where no hole exists)
Using a multi meter, check that the following have continuity:
UP- 1:3, 4:8
OFF- 3:4, 4:8
DOWN- 1:8, 3:4
That is the test for the drivers side master window switch. Hopefully it is easy enough to understand.

Hey DeathCougar, Is this the only page you had of this subject? Im trying to convert my manual windows to power. And this seems to be the first piece i need to better understand how to wire everything correctly. Do you have any more pix? Can you possibly get a more clear full page scan or picture please. Ive been looking around everywhere online to see how to wire this and i havent been very successful. Thanks for your time.

I had issues with my windows not working either (driver worked, passenger didn't). Took switch apart and turned out some prongs were not quite touching when the button was pressed. It's better now but I also have some slop in the pivot point of the switch, so when I push down I have to push additionally up or down (laterally to the Up/down motion) to get the contacts to fully engage sometimes....
Hope it's an easy fix.

Thanks Philbert. I'm actually putting in a whole power window system. My truck has never had power windows before. I actually pulled all the wires and buttons door panels etc off a downer 4runner at a junk yard. I'm just trying to see how exactly to wire this up. I've been working at th is for a good 3 hours now and still no progress with getting to move up or down. I already confirmed that the window motors work so that's at least pulled out. I've seen a few threads do this. But none have done it this way

Oh wow, didn't realize that - good for you! My truck is SR5 so I have power locks and windows on my door panel switches.
Are you getting power / ground where you are supposed to be, per the FSM?
I ordered those LEDs for the climate control, BTW, thanks for the tips!

About those LED's. I'm glad I was able to help. That's why I made that thread. Glad it helped a few people.
Thanks for checking it out dude. I think I've gotten this Haynes manual figured out now. I have a wiring diagram for power windows and locks. Lets hope this gets the job done. I'm still trying to fully understand how to read it. But ChefYota explained a lot to news today which cleared a good deal up for me. So hopefully I have this spaghetti soup of wires figured out by this weekend. As for the FSM goes I'll try my best to see if I can find an online scan. Hopefully that'll help me out some.

Take the Haynes, and throw it into the fire before you burn your truck to the ground. Seriously. The wiring book from Toyota is ~$30 (I bought one for my 89) and they are still available. And they are accurate. Haynes is incorrect almost every time.
You can get the FSM on Ebay for around $30-$50 as well. Get those books, you will be glad you did.

Oh really... nice ok always thought these dealership books costed $130+
Or was that the mechanic book? I dunno. But if that book only costs that little Im thinking I might actually go for it. Thanks man.
