After reading many posts on different forums about this exact problem but never finding the solution, I decided to come back to my old Yotatech stomping grounds and see if anyone might know the answer to my problem.

Here's the problem. When I'm accelerating in my 94 22re 5speed pickup, it lacks in power. However, when I hit higher RPMs or if I floor it the power kicks in suddenly. It started happening one day and its been like that every since.

I just figured it was a bad wire or something so I replaced the plugs, wires, cap and rotor and while all that stuff was needed, none of it made a difference. So after searching around, I found a lot of posts about the TPS causing similar problems. So I replaced it. I haven't adjusted it but it feels the same as before. I suppose I should have tried adjusting it before posting but I have a feeling thats not what it is. Has anyone ever actually had and solved this problem?

To me it feels like whatever advances inside the distributor is sticking and then freeing up at full throttle. I've never found a post about a bad distributor though. Could it be something like that?

My little truck was running so good before. Help me get it back like it was.

Sounds to me like your cam or ignition timing is off...

My 3.0 does the same thing, I am starting to think its the mechanical fan. Right at 3100 rpms the truck seems to come alive right at this point I can hear the fan disengage.

Advance your timing by a few degrees and see if that makes a difference...

Alright, I'll try that stuff. I had just retarded it a little bit to help with emissions, which worked and it ran very well for about a week after that. Thats when the problem manifested itself. I guess before I try any more parts I'll get a timing light and set the timing and adjust the TPS properly. I really will post if I solve the problem. No one else ever has.

When you say advance the timing, do you mean make the timing mark on the crank pulley a few degrees BEFORE TDC or a few degrees after (going clockwise.)

I assume he means electrical timing, by moving the distributor and advance the timing a few degrees?

To the original poster: You NEED to adjust the TPS when installing it. Its really easy by just inserting a feeler gauge inbetween the throttle stop screw. Usually the best to pull the TB off the truck and do it on the bench to get it closest as possible.

Hows your fuel delivery? Fuel pupmp, filter, and injectors clean and functioning?

I will be doing TPS adjustment and changing the fuel filter this week will let ya know if that helps.

o2 sensor.. ive had a few trucks do that same thing, and when it started happening the cel came on and threw a bad o2 code.

Hey AxeKick... Did you ever figure out what was going on with your truck? I have the same problem and I'm having an unbelievably hard time figuring it out.

Mine (94 4Runner, 3.Slow, 2wd, auto) runs rich and only runs right with the TPS unplugged (yes, it's a Denso, it's new and it's adjusted perfectly!). When I run it with the TPS plugged in, it runs like a total dog up to 3000 rpm and then runs like a race car!

Any thoughts on what to check would be greatly appreciated.

Have you guys also checked to make sure the EGR is not stuck open?
The green VSV does get plugged and sometimes rusted if it sucks water into it.
