Post Your Pics!!!
I bought it on Ebay. I live in Minnesota and the truck was in Tennessee. I was in CO for work and just changed my return flight to a Tennessee airport to pick it up and drive it home sight unseen. Never done anything like that before. The seller was awesome. The components are very lightly used due to the low mileage. I'm replacing a lot, though, to get ahead of maintenance since everything is 30 years old.
- deleted the EGR with block off plates except for the big guy on the back of the head since I'm not pulling the head this time around
- replacing all the vacuum hoses I'm keeping with silicone
- New silicone coolant hoses to radiator
- new silicone heater hoses
- replacing valve cover gaskets, rubber inserts, rubber washer things, all hardware.
- replacing two small coolant hoses on the throttle body with rubber OEM replacements since I can't find them in silicone
- replacing thermostat with two stage, new o rings
- replacing timing chain, guides (steel), tension, etc.
- replacing timing cover, oil pump, water pump, all gaskets
- going to flush radiator while its off and then flush entire coolant system when back on
- new rear driver shaft staked nut and ecoseal since I can feel it has some play, hope that's all it is
- new fuel filter
- new PCV valve/grommet and hose
- new breather hose
- new 02 sensor and gasket
- dropping pan to clean it out, new hardware and of course new sealant
- new radiator cap
- probably other things I missed

Dang that is awesome!! Great list of things to do
How hard was that to accomplish? Cost? I've seen good condition axles for about 250-350 on Ebay with free shipping and swap kits anywhere from 500 to 1300.
I'd be interested in doing the swap one day mostly to make it easier to get under there and have less complicated things to maintain. How hard is it to drop the oil pan with the solid axle?

Used to live down about two miles of dirt road that the County graded every few months. Apparently this time they graded half of it and scraped the loose dirt and dust onto the other side. Was on my way to work, going about 35, front tire caught in an almost foot deep rut (filled with loose dust, so I didn't see it), pulled off to the side and rolled. The worst part was unbuckling the seat belt and landing headfirst in a pile of broken glass. Was an hour late for work and sore for a couple of weeks.

My 1988 Time Machine
I bought this truck new in 1988, then had a kid so had to sell into a friend two years later. He kept it immaculately for 27 years and 283,000 miles. It was like putting it in cold storage the way he cared for it. I just bought it back. Everywhere I go, someone wants to buy it. Arizona truck, no rust whatsoever. Original engine, never rebuilt. Original seats, windshield, u-joints wheel bearings. Fun, fun.
Three 4x4's now. Classic, roar or comfort.
Original seats, no tears or stains. dash had a couple cracks, unavoidable in Arizona, but no rust anywhere.
It ran a camper most of it's life, but the camper finally fell apart, so I trashed it. It couldn't keep up with the Toyota.
Added FJ40 wheels and tires and a toolbox so I could lock up my laptop when commuting.
Doors forward were painted after minor collision many years ago. Bed is original paint. Hardly any nicks, chips or scratches.

Wow! Amazing story! I love that body style truck. The FJ wheels are a nice touch
