I bought an '86 22r and everytime I apply the brakes pretty hard OR turn sharp to the right, the engine looses power and sometimes dies. I'm thinking it might be a possible vacuum leak or a brake booster issue (this seems less likely to me). Any insight or troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

I'm new to the toyota scene, so this is all new for me. Treat me as a total newbie when describing your ideas/experiences.

sounds like a fuel issue to me. turning would have nothing to do with vacuum. check the float bowl in the carb. inertia will cause the fuel to move around in the bowl and if there is not enough fuel in there it will starve. try driving it on an incline with the right side up or the frond end down hill. this would simulate turns and braking.

well, on an incline it runs fine and there's definitely too much fuel currently. I'm thinking the entire carb needs rebuilt. It doesn't idle well at low RPMs and it requires tons of excess fuel to idle decently. I bought a new float and a rebuild kit, I'm hoping to FINALLY get around to it this week. Any more speculations with the added facts?

I believe it has nothing to do with the carb now.. If I let it sit idle in my garage, a level floor, and pump the brakes, it dies. It'll do the same thing if I turn the wheels sitting at idle.. What the heck? Need some help!
