Hey guys, Its been a while since I have been on here, probably because my truck has been running great. I think I am getting to the point to where my truck is needing a new fuel filter. I have put just about 10k miles on the truck since I bought it and have no clue when the filter was changed by the PO. I know that changing the fuel filter in these trucks is a PITA and thought that if I was going to go for it myself, then I might as well change the whole filter system altogether to something a little more convenient.

I work at a Kubota tractor dealership and noticed that one of the complete fuel filter assemblies for their mid size diesel tractors was priced at about the same as a new yota OEM filter and this is a bowl style with a removable cartridge filter. It could be mounted almost anywhere and will flow as much fuel as is needed by the 22re, however the media is smaller. This is a high quality japanese made part. I will load a picture of what I have in mind as soon as possible so everyone can take a look.

Let me know any thoughts or any details that I may have over looked about the project. I have mid to upper level do it yourselfer skills, and there arent many things that scare me under the hood of this truck anymore.

Its not really that hard to change and they last a long time, leave well enough alone.

If you're set on that, just relocate the factory one to an easier to reach location. Assuming you don't dump all sorts of crap in your tank, they last well over 100k miles. People seem to forget that the fuel pump has a pre-filter on it.

Toyota intended many of them to be "lifetime filters" which is one of the reasons they're in such awkward places. (Like above the differential on the MKIII Supras)

While I don't necessarily agree with "Lifetime," I do believe that if you always use good gas that the filter will probably last the life of the truck.

Unless it's time to change it in the middle of winter with wet tires and it's freezing cold. And, unless you have a garage, it's a good enough reason to want to make it a little easier, I say.... Otherwise, no.......it's not that hard.

What is the fuel pressure for the kubota? If same (45 psi?) or higher, you should be good. Of course, you'll have to change the mounting/connection hardware.

I'd say those are valid reasons. I had never seen or heard anything about the filters being "lifetime", and figured some self engineering might be fun. I'll wait and see what some others say before making the final decision.

Looks like a downgrade to me. I wouldn't do it. But it ain't my truck...

BTW...the original fuel filter from the factory on my 88 was still working fine with over 200k miles when I finally replaced it. Only did it because ~210,000 miles sounded like a good time to change it...just in case...and it was pretty cheap(NAPA Gold, 10 micron, ~$25 IIRC). So why not? It might have lasted for another 100k miles or more though...who knows?

X3.....that thing looks cheapo as hell. Plus, no pressure fittings. I wouldn't use it, either.

I would be concerned about the pressure of that filter. It looks like the filter thats on my Kubota 3400 and its just a gravity feed from the fuel tank to the injection pump.

Well I have been talked out of it. Thats why I wanted to throw the idea out there to get ideas about things I hadn't thought of. Found a couple of other mods where time and money are better spent. Thanks for the ideas and info guys. Happy New Year

I did the Fuel Filter relocation and made some risers to lift it up a touch. Did this before doing the 2 piece intake to make it easier, I like how it looks, looks OEM factory like it should have been done in 93 :}LOL

On this relocation you use existing hardware just relocate to fender, go to dealer and get the new gaskets to re-attach to fuel rail and the new fuel filter should come with 4 copper gaskets, any question or you need more pics just let me know, it's easy peasy :}
