pinion from hell....

Alright guys, so about 3 weeks ago my front diff ran out of oil and as to be expected, parts didn't like that. My pinion bearings deformed and some of the rollers spun sideways. To summarize the problem I can't get the pinion out. From everything I can find they just press into the differential correct? I gave up on saving the pinion and just want it removed. I took a 10lb sledge hammer and gave it all i'm worth, but this thing wont budge. Any advise? (btw, lets keep the "just SAS it"'s to a minimum ;D.)

Sounds like a new front diff might be easier at the moment.

I had that happen to one of my customer diffs....had to use a torch and burn a circle around the pinion until it fell out. No damage to the differential housing or carrier as some call it.
