Pickup slider window break-ins!

Anyone do anything about the rear slider window on their pickup? Now that I've got a new motor, lots of work, and some money into my pickup... It would be nice if I could do something about the rear slider.

It has been pryed open in the past, breaking the inside latch, and bending the metal rails at the edges where the 2 pieces of glass meet. Any good mods or fixes that would make it harder to get into? Maybe a solid rear window?

BTW, its a '94

Sure. Cut a piece of dowl rod that will fit in between the edge of the slider and the edge near the cab. Use one small enough that it will settle into the rails the slider slides on. I did this on mine when I still had it and do the same thing to the window and sliding glass door in the apartment. It might not stop them but they'll have to break the window to get in and it's a lot louder when that happens and makes the break in more time consuming.

Only rookies get into them by prying open the latch.

I can remove the entire back window out of a pickup in less than 5 seconds with a screwdriver, and not do any damage to the window OR the paint of the truck. And no, its not just me talking. This is how I remove the back windows from trucks at work. Works perfect every time.

it doesn't really matter what you do, if a thief wants in your truck, they are getting in. Pickups with sliding back windows from 1967-2004 are incredibly easy to break into.

i replaced mine with a one piece glass in after someone tried to steal my rig.
I was lucky. I had pulled the engine to do a rebuild. thieves even popped the hood. I would have loved to seen it.

Lol, somebody broke into my truck when the PO had it.
I found glass under the carpet, and i had no rear window latch. The metal rails are also messed up as well.

Keeping a metal dowel in there is dangerous, especially in a rollover accident. That dowel becomes a projectile.

The bottom line is, if a thief wants your truck, they'll get it. Spend time thinking of clever ways to cut power to the fuel pump and starter. That will slow them down, unless they flatbed it.

no joke man. my bro has a ford ranger and we used the rear sliding window to get in after he locked his keys in the truck. it was sooo easy with an old gift card i had the first time then he locked them in again and i used a cloths hanger...... i dont know how the toyota windows are but in the ranger we made up a little wedge that fit under the latch. there was no way of getting it open without removing that wedge.

in my 4runner the side sliders are just as easy. iv been meaning to find a way to lock those.

but its true..... if they wanna get into ur truck they will. theres no denying that.

then remove your tires hehehe
remove tires, and put locking lugnuts on each stud..
then, chain the truck to the garage.
and finally, put a lock on your driveline.

that'll slow em down.

Understood that if someone really wants it... they'll get it.

I'l be setting up a kill switch this weekend, but as my window is right now... I shut it as far as I can, and you can still tell that it won't lock shut.

I could get a dog, but I don't really want a rottweiler crapping all over my seats while I leave him in there overnight

Maybe one of those "Nothing in this truck is worth your life" stickers?
