I am just curious where do you guys carry full size spare tires?
especially over 33" tires?
Also if you have a great idea to mount hi-lift jack also.
Please share your pic.
Thanks

I carry mine only to put them on
I like to keep weight down low so ide say in the bed if you can fit it or a tire carrier behind the rig. I would never put one up high like on a roof rack like ive seen before. aspecialy when wheeling.

Nice,
mounting on roll bar would be great idea if I have 1gen 4runner or p/u.
I kind of like what tc did on his rig.
I carry my 33" spare behind of rear seat, but last time I had first flat tire on muddy trail (I guess I have been lucky). I did not like the fact super muddy tires inside of my cargo area where my tools are. Also my hi-lift jack was really messy too. so it was not fun cleaning. lol
I am thinking about install OEM rear mount tire rack from '90 4runner.
Just before do so I wanted to know what other guys do.
some of my friends doesn't even have full size spare, financial cause or weight ... I don't know...but.
anyway, keep posting your pic. I enjoy what you guys show me sop far.
Thanks

I just have a tire repair kit. 38s or 44s are quite too big to carry, and no need actually. We can usually solve the problem in few hours or get a spare tire from home within few hours (that is, if the weather is on our side...)
But when I was on 38s I sometimes had 35" tire on my roof, but that's only during the summer. I'd rather have a blown tire and have to wait for a buddy to bring another rather than flip my yota over.
Even when I had 33s I only had tire repair kit, and used it few times.

Factory rack. 35" MTR. Made brackets for the Hi-Lift.
I also have an internal rack I built when I plan to do some "gnarlier" trails and reduce rear overhang. Holds the spare flat to the bed. Puts toolbox and cooler on top. I'll try and post a pic or two of that setup.

I usually leave mine at home to save on weight to save gas....bad idea, I know. I do keep some fix a flat just in case.
I used to put it right in the back of my 4Runner, but I needed extra cargo space one day, and I haven't put it back in there since. It is only a 31" 10.50, but I cannot mount it underneath any more, because it contacts my exhaust, and that's how I melted my last spare. I'm looking into a roof rack to solve the hi lift jack mounting, and spare tire mounting.

That is a huge tire. I only have my factory 225/75/15 spare. Considerably smaller than what I was running, but I figured if I ever needed it, it would at least get me back to the pavement. Only had to use it once, and it matched the tires I was running. Blew the front right on a corner doing 50.

IMO, who freaking cares about a thread being old if it has good information in it. Other folks will rip you fro starting a new thread, or not searching, or a whole host of other things.
I say digging up an old thread shows you at least attempted a search!
Anyhoo, I carried my spare in the bed of the truck but that got really tiresome (no pun intended) since the truck is my daily driver and I use it as a truck. I finally got a new crank hoist thingy from the dealer and put it back under the bed. Now I'm running 33x9.50s so I have to see if I can fit a larger than 31" spare under the bed.
Good luck.

Skoti that 30/9.50 will fit in the factory tire carrier (the one under the rig).
For you first gen runner guys you can buy a Hi-lift mount that screws into the factory roll bar from 4crawler. I have on in my rig and used it for a long long time before I decided to attach the jack to my cargo rack.
Edit: I keep my spare and hi-lift on the cargo rack.

+1. Too many people are lazy and just start a new thread. Those of us that search then have to troll through 22 threads about 1 topic.
