Parts compatability

I am wondering if there is any information on different years compatability. I've got an 87 4x4 and the local junkyard has a trashed 90 4x4. They aren't very helpful in the matter and was hoping someone here had the knowledge.

Generally 86-95 is what you're looking for, for exact swap

It depends on the part (and are you surprised the junkyard isn't "very helpful"?)
Very generally, 8/88 on for pickups and 4runners are the same, but there are plenty of exceptions. For instance, a 1992 alternator fits later, but not earlier, models.

You can look up your exact part at a place like http://www.toyotapartsoverstock.com/, and there is a tab for "fitment." That will give you the interchange data, and it's as accurate as a dealership could do (if you could find a dealership that would spend the time).

Parts compatibility is going to depend on many different things such as model year, engine, trim/option level and such.

The frame for a 3VZE is 'different' than the 22RE's frame, for instance. Body panels from an 89 pickup will most likely not fit well on an 89 4Runner, or vice-versa. There were many different transmissions used over the years, and nearly as many different transfer cases as well. Different gear-sets were available, though many will interchange, but again it depends on the 'options' the vehicle was purchased with.

Better to ask about a specific part than issue a blanket query about "all" parts.

Thank you guys! The website is what I was hoping for.

And no, I'm not surprised about the junkyard at all. Only downside is there aren't many yota's to pick from in the area.
