Parking brake light

My darn parking brake light has started to come on while I'm driving. Is this some sort of indicator that something else (brakes) is about to go bad?

Thanks in advance.

The first thing I'd check is the brake fluid. If it is low, the light will kick on.

either low brake fluid or the e-brake handle isnt contacting the switch properly.

make sure the fluid is topped up, even if it looks high enough it can slosh around corners and cause the light to intermitantly come on.

If you don't have a leak anywhere, it's usually an indicator that the brake pads are getting worn down.
Less pad-->more room for calipers to push-->less fluid in the reservoir.

The little float switch that is under the cap will go down and cause that light to turn on.

Yes. It is telling you the fluid is too low. Some trucks are really touchy and require the fluid to be filled beyond the full line.

this sounds familiar...

ah yes, right here!

My 91 PU did the same thing when I first got it; didn't matter if I had the right amount of brake fluid in it and all new pads and the parking brake was all the way released. I just took out the little fill-filter from the reservoir and all is well now.

Yup it was low fluid. I'll be checking the brakes next week just in case though.
