Painting Box
Well i'm about to get a new box for my truck, problem is, it is a different color. after learning how much it would cost to repaint the truck i think i will just try to paint mach the box with the cab. my idea is to paint the sides and the tailgate with a duplicolor paint mach and rhino line the inner bed. how well does duplicolor mach up?
thanks for any help

why not go to a good parts store that sells paint? Get your paint code off the door or under the hood and get them to mix that paint. May be a bit more costly but it'll match. Now if the trucks been repainted thats another story

you didnt mention what color it was. some colors are easier to match than others (like black). I'll second custom ordering the paint.
It goes on a lot smoother with a spray gun than with a spray can

it's a light blue, i'm not sure the "Toyota name" for it. i may end up painting the whole thing, depending on costs
BTW: the new box which is mint, is only $500

some jobbers have a "gun" that can read the exact pigment of the paint and mix it accordingly. I did this type of match to my neighbors tacoma, it was white and never waxed and it was a perfect match.

i work in a paint and body shop. i know of the color you are talking about. its going to be a bitch to use duplicolor setup. might get close-ish. as for the matching theory. that would be alot closer. probably not dead on if you dont tint the color and blend it out onto the front of the truck a bit, but close. id say 1-2 coats of sealer to get it more neutral. then 3-4 coats of color, because that one is a bit thin. and 2-3 coats of clear to make sure their is enough to prevent uv protection for the basecoat.
but, you could also just repaint the whole truck so it all matches.
