Talking Painted the campershell

After reading some post about painting the trucks with rollers,I decided to do my camper shell to match my truck.I bought the interluxe topside polyureathane from Jamestown distributors.Instead of rolling I went to Harbor freight and bought a gravity feed low pressure paint gun. It was $39.00 on sale this weekend.Sanded the shell with a Dewalt electric DA sander with 220 grit.Wipe it down with lacquer thinner, and sprayed the top.
Thinned out the paint with 10% thinner, and went to town. The topper used 1/4 of a quart of paint and turned out great. The interluxe is self leveling.I am going back and wet sand it then buff, but great finish for inexpensive paint.

You need the gun that's rated for heavy-bodied primers. I think it's the one with the 1.8mm tip.

Here is the link.Read the instructions. The pressure gauge stopped working right away, but I regulated my compressor to 45 lbs.I then ran thinner thru the gun to set the pattern, then paint. Some orange peel, but for a quick job it will do.I'll wet sand it one time then buff it.I'll add pics tonight.

The gun is from harbor freight, and is a 1.4 tip. I wetsanded the one run I had, then wet sanded the whole thing with 1000 grit paper. Then hit it with the DA sander with 220 paper, and sprayed a second coat.Interlux recomends two coats.Came out pretty good and the paint is self leveling as stated by the MFg.Its not a mirror finish but came out better than expected.[url]

Check out Zelephants post.He did the roll on,I as listed above, sprayed mine.I then bought a gravity feed sprayer from Harbor freight,Bought the Interlux topside paint and thinner from Jamestown distributors. I thinned it 10% with the interlux thinner. The compressor was a sears with a water filter, set to 65 lbs of pressure and then adusted the gun to 45lbs.The camper shell used less than half a quart.
I used a dewalt D.A electric sander to prep the surface with 220 grit paper. Then used lacquer thinner to wipe it down before I sprayed it.
Sprayed one coat and it turned out great. They recommend two coats when spraying.I sanded it again with 220 to take the gloss out, then sprayed again.
If it was my truck,I would have wet sanded it.But for the topper,it will do fine.
