Overdrive OFF /trans issue?

Ok, so I have read LOTS of threads and been through the FSM and can't find a problem quite like mine. Please forgive if there is, I haven't found any.
Here we go:
Crank up the truck, O/D OFF light is not flashing. Drive down road, still no flash. 15 seconds after tranny goes into O/D, light begins 2 second interval flash. Ok, I go back to my shop and pull in, put in park, light still flashing. Shut truck off, short pin as advised on NUMBEROUS posts and watch light..................still watching.............getting bored......... NO FLASHES ON O/D OFF light. Turn off switch, pull jumper. Start truck.............NO FLASHING O/D OFF light!!!!! drive down road, still off, 15 seconds after it shifts into O/D the OFF light starts flashing again!!!!

I appreciate the reply but that's the same test procedure my FSM gives. I did that but like
I said, even though it was flashing during driving it never threw a code when tested.

Normally, if the check engine light and the o/d light do not flash then you are not shorting the test connector out properly.

Check engine light does the slow single flash (no code indicated) but the Off light never does.

Other than the light, are you getting any drivability issues? Does it remain in O/D when the light flashes?

I know that link says to jump TE1 and E1, but from memory you're supposed to jump Tc and E1 to check for trans codes [and cruise, ABS, ect].
Have you tried that?

It shifts out and stays in O/D but there are a few places along the up shift that seem like they go in to the next gear but not really.....(i know, that made NO sense to me either after I wrote it) Its kinda like between 2nd and 3rd there is an extra gear change up but its not a gear really. It holds gears fine when in them.
oh, BTW fluid and filter were changed about a year ago.

the more I look at testing the stranger it gets. one FSM says the TE1 to E1 another says to ground DG wire (????) to check it. Not sure what the DG wire is. the pic kinda looks like its in the harness running to the coil pack or atleast over in that area.
this gets weirder and weirder.

i have a 93 4 runner doing the same thing. steady 2 sec blinks ect.. I ended up pulling the EFI fuse out and put it back in and that seemed to clear the blinking for now. the book says a steady pulse is normal but, you think it would go out after doing its check. i will let you know what i find if it starts blinking again

It's fixed!

The way to check the trans code is NOT to short the same wires you do to check the engine code, according to the FSM you have to ground the DG (no clue about the name) connector which is on the drivers side inner fender by the coil:

once I did that it flashed the code (speed sensor) and I was able to fix the problem!!!!

WOW can't believe this was so difficult to figure out.............But now I know and hopefullt someone else wont have to struggle like I did.
