one messed up 22re
ok so heres the story, so yesterday i replaced my header gasket because the old one was basically just gone, but anyways after i got the new one installed i started it up and rode up to the end of my road for a test drive and when i got back home my truck was idling like crap to the point where it almost cuts off. so i checked for vacuum leaks and found nothing. well it got to dark to see after that so i called it a day, so this morning i take it to a good friend of mine to look at it, he is ase certified and a 22re guru (he uses 22re's in his dirt track cars) and he checks for vacuum leaks also and finds nothing, so then he checks for any engine codes and once again nothing, then he starts checking the distributor, plugs, wires etc and finds something rather odd, when he unplugged the wires to #2 and #3 the truck started to idle as if nothing was wrong, he even switched up the two for the hell of it and the truck didnt sputter at all...but we then plugged them back up in the proper order and it runs like crap again. neither me or my friend have ever seen anything like this before, so i am looking for help from the geniuses here on yotatech to help me out. any advice would be greatly appreciated

Are they TOYOTA wires? Yazaki, the brand my dealership gave me, had the numbers written on them. Its possible you put the #2 wire on the #3 connection, and 3 on 2, on the cap. Sure seems like that ...

I would check to make sure the TPS is adjusted correctly. Also make sure the AFM is working and not getting stuck closed.
Any time wires are unplugged and it runs better, I start at those two places...
