Going to be "interesting" getting off those stock bolts if they've never been off before.

Might invest in some new ones.

When I did mine, the bolts came off just fine. CA rig, no rust to speak of.

The bushing kits I received from OME did not include the sleeves for the front spring eyes. The rear spring eye uses the stock bolts, which have a built in sleeve, so to speak.

To get the sleeves out of the front eyes of your old springs, burn them out with a MAP gas or propane torch. Do this outside, obviously. Set the end of the spring on a 4x4 with the eye overhanging it. Start heating up the sleeve and burning up the rubber. When you get the sleeve hot enough, you can push it out with a screwdriver, or, it will fall out on its own. Let the bushing cool down, clean it up with some sandpaper, good to go for install into the new springs with the new bushings.

I love my springs, which you have probably read in other related threads. Others have had problems with them being too stiff, but that is no my experience.

Good luck,

Mike

Can you use larger bolts w/out sleeve.

I'm about to install some OME springs in my 86 4Runner. I bought the bushing kit from OME, but it sounds like I might have some problems with bolting the front up. Does anyone know if you can use larger bolts in the front spring eye instead of using the bushing sleeve? If not, where can you buy some sleeves? I want to make sure I have all the parts I need before I start work on my only ride.

Thanks

why don't you have any bushing sleeves?

I wouldn't personally install them without the sleeves. i believe the whole purpose of the bushing sleeve is so that the leaf moves independently from the perch and keeps the bushings relatively straight when the leaf is articulated. it makes sure there is minimal binding on that front eye and puts less wear on the bushing itself. without one, you'd be pivoting directly on the bushing thus wearing out that bushing considerably faster. it could also potentially freeze up since the bolt is in direct contact with the bushing.

all the sleeves are is a piece of tube with the proper ID and OD. i'm sure you could find one either at a dealer, junk yard, craigslist, etc. or even just measure the bushings/bolt and find something that works.
