OM617 with auto trans....
Here is the question. I have a 3vz-fe mated to an auto trans, and a Mercedes OM617 turbo diesel sitting in my yard. I would like to mate the OM617 to the auto trans, but I'm not sure how the transmission computer would work with this, and I have not been able to find any info on the subject. Can someone give me some advice?
It seems to me that if the E.C.T. was left in "normal" mode that it might be a good shifting program for the turbo diesel. I realize that some transmissions use vacuum to determine when and where to shift, but I have a feeling that this E.C.T. is vastly different. I am not familiar with how the transmission operates and what inputs/sensors it might use.
Please let me know if this seems like a ridiculous idea.. part of me would like a manual transmission but so many times this auto has proven to be very useful.

Do you have a 3vze or 3vzfe?
I think the issue w/ the auto is that there's no prefab adapter plates available for the transmission. Call tdswaps and ask them about availability I suppose.
Regardless, you need to look at your FSM and then make the call. Any swaps on these boards w/ autos and non ECM engines should tell you what you need to know.

What is an FSM? Excuse my ignorance, but it kind of seems like the adapter plate is the lesser of my worries. I was planning on making one myself.
Thank you for the input on the transmission and its sensors. That is exactly what I was looking for. Do you have anything more to add? Do you think this could actually be done, like maybe finding someone who can program my transmission computer for that motor? Pipe dream??

Here is some good ECT transmission info I found.

It looks like the ECT ECU basically controls the transmission based on the throttle position sensor

I believe it can be done and I've seen folks that have done it, but you'll need to search to find it.
I pulled the 10 different sensors cite from the FSM's system
