OME Dakar rear springs, BJ spacers up front. Will probably take the t-bars down one notch for the front.

Your truck looks good. Good idea on the puller. How much lift from the springs and how is the ride?

About 2.5 inches of lift, but my rears springs were completely shot. They ride really well, I could run the stiffer OME springs if I carried a pop-up camper or several hundred more pounds of gear.

The ride is much improved, much more compliant & stiffer on the road, which is more due to the shocks.

How's the Randy's 3rd member working out? I've been pricing out all the parts, plus the time I think it would take me to do the work myself, counting the down-time the truck's up on stands, and $1800 seems par considering all that for a Detrioit Locker-equipped 5.29 rebuilt 3rd member.

Truckmike-- Call Randy's & talk to them, they will probably price what you want lower than what they advertise it for. They gave me a SWEET deal on a rebuilt 4.88 IFS front diff. The customer service on the air locker has been awesome as well, they overnighted a new switch & solenoid because they were missing from my parts kit.

Oh yeah, and a Christmas card, signed by people at the shop & a nice calendar. Those guys rock.

Drmix-- Yes I did, I used the OME nitrocharger shocks, and they firmed up the ride a lot. Would purchase them again.

OME rear springs CS 019 R

Hello,
I just installed the same springs (OME CS 019 R) and am experiencing some "popping" noises in the rear when flexing. Did you experience the same? does it go away as springs wear in?
Also, I have a little drivetrain vibration when accel/decel at speeds below 25mph - I do have the X-cab though w/longer shaft and center bearing... I'm considering angle shims...

also wondeirng if the added lift should have any affect on the proportioning valve for the rear brakes..?

any info/thoughts would be great
thanks

Sorry for the month-late reply. Will do. Just haven't decided on keeping the stock 4.88s or going to 5.29s. Been busy fixing all sorts of things so far -- rusty brake lines, a few wiring things, replacing rotted seals. Sometimes it feels like It'll be years before I get this thing back on the road.

It does affect the rear brake proportioning bias. Make an extension bracket for the axle mount out of a steel strip with four holes spaced accordingly.

Lifting a vehicle usually requires lengthening drivelines, and my rear driveline needed to be about 9/10th's of an inch longer. I am having a new one made using factory toyota slip yokes & ujoints, as most driveline shops use Spicer components & 1310-series ujoints, which are way lighter-duty! You can add a spacer, such as those offered by 4crawler, to gain driveline length, or get a new one made.

"Popping" in the springs is no bueno! Check that everything is aligned right in the leaf packs, check the torque on all bolts. I chased down the 'popping' sound in leaf springs on an old Jeep, and it took a while. Ended up taking them all apart, re-greasing the the leaves & bushings & that solved the problem.

i have dakar leafs in the rear of my 86 short bed. When i first installed them the shackles kept inverting when i drooped my wheel. I found that i needed a special shackle plate that stops the inversion. But before I figured this out, I kept hearing the shackle bang against the frame. just a thought.

Nice choice on suspension! After a lot of trial and error I finally stuck with stock t-bars, BJ spacers and OME leafs too!
