Hey guys, I posted up a few days ago thinking I had a bad transfer case leak on a 93 4 runner I just picked up wich turned out to actually be a bad heater hose (phew).

The problem is fixed now, but I am a bit concerned because when it was leaking is was like very oily water, hence my being confused of what was leaking.

I filled the radiator back up with coolant, the engine oil seems like fresh oil, no weird smells. The exhaust does blow a little white smoke during cold starts until warmed up also. Im thinking the head gasket had blown and was replaced before I purchased and quickly sold afterwards to me.

I may just be paranoid, the truck runs SOOOO good its crazy but I cant help but worry because I plan on keeping this one for myself for a while.

Any thoughts or input are greatly apprecaited.

Was the coolant red? It could be the Toyota long life coolant?

Also the guy might have been a dumbass and put that stuff in the coolant system to stop the head gasket leak. They did that on mine, I'm pretty sure and the entire inside of the cooling system is nice and adobe red. I had to flush the system a few tiems to get it out.

Why not just flush the coolant system, collect it, and see? Its pretty simple job... take out thermostat to make it easier, open up the radiator, drain, refill, start up, drain, refill, etc... or at least thats the way I do it if the block plug is too hard to access.

Where is the leak?

I'd do both compression & cooling system pressure tests.

i thought i was having a similar problem, was dripping some oily feeling coolant on the ground...kinda freaked me out cuz i couldn't tell what it was (looked like a mix)..then i realized i have a small oil leak, and a small coolant leak, therefore when it drips onto the tranny, and the two mix...it forms this oily looking and feeling coolant mixture/substance.

This makes alot os sence! Since the bottom of the truck was really greasy when the water was driping down the back of the motor on the tranny it collected some of that grease and falls on the ground hence the "oily water".
