Oil in coolant but not coolant in oil.

I fixed one of my coolant hoses that was leaking. When I topped off my coolant it had a huge layer of black oil floating on top of the coolant. Anyone know what could cause this???

My magic 8 ball is telling me it's your headgasket.

But to be sure, I would do a pressure test on your cooling system to see where your loosing pressure at. I would also do a compression test to further nail down your issue.

Could it be the intake gasket? I was readin the mustang fourm, eventhough its an American V8, they were sayin that they were gettin oil in the coolant but not vise versa when they were blowin intake gaskets. Im hopin its something relatively easy. My dad is sayin worst case scenario is cracked head or block.

This is an import 4 banger though. Apple and oranges to a ford V8. If coolant is getting in oil or oil in coolant either your head gasket is leaking/blown or theres a hole in your timing cover. Did you put a new timing cover on or reuse the old one?

Thats what I was thinkin, but wasn't sure if some things could be the same. The timing cover came on the junkyard motor. The guy said all the parts were good. I watched him put most of it together so...

Got it fixed. It was a loose head bold. Weird. It was the guy who built it at the junkyard.

Now that I have fixed the oil leak into the coolant, I have a coolant leak something fierce somewhere. We are thinking head gasket now. It does not seem to be on the outside of the motor, cuz I can't see it leakin anywhere.
