Oil consumption-no smoke, good vacuum ??!?
I posted a while back about a newly rebuilt 22re in my 91 pickup burning a little oil. I thought it might be a ring seating issue, well now i have 2000 miles on the motor, and i am going through a quart every week and a half, no smoke , no fouling on plugs, good steady vacuum, and no oil leaks or oil in coolant. I am stumped. I have seen honda's that billow smoke from the exhaust, and have every symptom of bore damage/worn rings that use less oil than this truck. I am super frustrated and am thinking about buying an LC motor. Any suggestions from you guys before I buy a new motor/rebuild this one? Thanks in advance,

I am switching to a motorcycle oil tommorrow as you suggested in another thread, abecedarian. I didn't rebuild this sucker so I can't comment on how the rings were clocked, or what type of rings were used. but I will do a compression test tomorrow after changing oil and let you know the results.

It might only leak when it is running and hot, so after you get out of your driveway. It also could be burning oil on decel by sucking oil past the valve seals.

I am an acura mechanic, so this truck goes on a lift at least once a week, I'd have seen a leak, and I'd think there would be some smokle on startup after sitting if the guides were leaking. I changed out the oil with some 30w compressor oil, to rule out rings seating. Like I said, the weird thing is the lack of symptoms other than low oil level. But thank God for Yotatech I really appreciate the time you all are taking to put our heads together to figure this issue out. BTW, the cat is still on this truck BigBlock.

i know 91toyota had an simular thread recently and he pretty much determined that he got tapered rings and probably installed some of them upside down. but i think he said he was getting a little bit of startup smoke. hopefully that is not the issue with you. like previously stated if you got chromolly rings they take a long time to seat.

I put 30W ND in it today, I'll leave that in for about 500 miles and switch over to a good multi weight and see what happens, I need to do a compression test, meant to do one today, but got hung up with "honey-do's"
