odd hub issue

So I just got done reading a thread about hubs, and it got me thinking about my strange hub issue that I noticed the first time locking the truck into 4wd when I got my 91 PU almost a year ago. One hub is a half turn to lock in, and the other is a quarter turn to lock in. They both lock in just fine and I haven't had any issues, and they both look to be stock originals (both look identical). Not sure if this is anything to worry about, but has anyone else seen this before.

My only guess is that one broke in the past, and whoever had it before me just replaced the one, maybe off a different year or something, I don't know, but it just got me curious...

So are you saying that on the dial of the hub, the Free and Lock settings are different distances apart on each hub?

Yeah, basically. That's what's odd... they both have "locked" and "unlocked" stamped in the same places at the 12 and 6 o clock positions, but one only has to be turned half of that distance to lock in; the other turns all the way to "locked" to lock in.

It may be easier to explain if I take some photos of them unlocked then locked, lol, it's hard to explain, unless you know what I'm talking about?

Ohhh, okay. That makes sence now.
My guess somebody has tried to rebuild them in the past and didn't get it completly right.

I would take them apart and rebuild them, always good to do these things anyways

Here is a GREAT picture by picture rebuild guide, best I could find:

Whoa, that's an awesome pic-by-pic tutorial, thanx man! After looking at that, the "Locked" and "Unlocked" spots are not at 12 and 6 o clock, more like 12 and 7:30, lol. I have to get my motor put back together tomorrow, but the next day I have off I might have to do that! Good thing I just put ink my my printer, I'm gonna print out the hole thing, lol... only 12 pages minus the blah blah blah at the bottom.

Good idea

I remember when I was attempting to rebuild my aisin hubs without a guide (and never seeing one apart before) mine wouldnt go all the way to the "real" lock position.

The one part that really messed with me was the spring that clips into the gear.
