Unhappy o2 sensor location

On a 1988 pickup with a 22re where does the o2 sensor mount. The engine was replaced before i got it and no o2 sensor. On top of the exhaust manifold i have 2 football shaped plates directly off the head about 1 an 1/2 inches. I think that was for a air pump line or something . See no other places on manifold or pipe to cat. Thanks

it's typically on the exhaust manifold.

'88 22res will have the o2 sensor downstream, under the cab, about a foot or two from the cat. '87 and earlier 22res have them in the manifold.

Might be '86 and earlier with the o2 in the mani, dont remember exactly.

Yes, they are the same manifolds. The bung is cast in the manifold, just not drilled for it.

I doubt if the manifold is from a 20r on a 88 engine, as the 20r and pre 85 22r heads and exhaust manifolds have different flanges and will not work with one another.

Pic is way to small to tell anything from it BTW.

o2

thats what i am trying to figure out the head has the oval cut outs on top of each port. For the secondary air. But the manifold does not just the 2 football shaped plates on top
