O/D off light is on crack. (86 PU)

So I finally got around to fixing the burnt out bulb in my "OD off" light, and I'm noticing it flashes randomly.

It's always when I'm driving so I never get a good look at it, but it seems to flash at a fairly constant pace, that quickens as I speed up. Overdrive still works fine though. I've heard some talk about this maybe being an error code, but most of these discussions seem to relate to 87 and newer, where the transmission computer was tied in to the diagnostic connector.

I've pulled codes on the vehicle, and all I get is a code 14 (malfunctioning knock sensor, it comes up occasionally)

Any ideas? The truck in question is an 86 22R-TE, which is hard enough to find documentation on anyways.

I'm not a transmission type of guy so bear with my pondering....
I wonder if the trans is getting ready to shift out of overdrive for some reason so the light comes on but then the trans doesn't shift out so the light goes off. How's the fluid in the trans? Clean and full?

yeah, I flushed the transmission like a month ago, so it's clean and full.

You have to use a different plug to pull a code for the tranny, it has its own ECU. It's at the front of the console, under the radio. Look on the driver front fender, there's a square plug, ground it, switch the ignition on, with OD on, don't start. The light will flash a code.
