O/D light flashing

O/D light flashing
My 95 4Runner automatic V6 4X4 often will not go into 1st and 2nd gear and then the O/D light starts flashing. I don't believe that the transmission is slipping because when I manually place it in L (low gear) it takes off just fine. Any help, please?

continuing the first posters question.
hi, i have 94 3.0 4x4. having same issues as the Zonian73. I can shift manually and get all the gears but wont go in D until im up to speed. I followed all the following posts and got a 62code. showing that its the #1 solenoid. However Im a bit confused when looking at the manual shift test graph. Is that supposed to be while moving to locate the shifter position and the corresponding correct gear? if so all is well with mine. what i am finding is that when at speed on the highway, my O/D button doesnt effect the gear change at all. the light go solid on dash but no kick down in gears. Also could the adjustment of the throttle cable effect this at all? Im not sure what the next step is. replace the solenoid? is that costly and what does the part and labor usually run.
thanks in advance for your help

Replace all the transmission selenoids while you are in there. Mine needs it as well It only happens here and there, more when it's cold outside. Usually when I shift it into first and go through second then back into drive it will quit with the antics for the rest of the drive.

After replacing the solenoid the problem was still happening. I found that it was the wiring around the oil filter was heating up and causing the transmission computer to go crazy. I also drained and filled the differential fluid and I haven't had any problems since. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Thank you for reporting back. A lot of people fail to do this and people who try to search for an answer never find one. I had never heard of that wiring problem and I will check that while my solenoids are still in the mail. May have just saved $60!
Update: My wiring was fine and replacing the solenoid is what fixed my problem.
