Question Not Cranking

Engine not cranking when cold. Ive checked the battery and starter. Both were good. Replaced the starter because i thought maybe it was just weak.

I have a 1990 toyta with a 3vze in it.

Whats the next thing to take apart/check?

-Thanks

When you say "not cranking" go you mean that the engine won't turn over (spin) when you try and start it or won't start?

How did you check the battery? Did you do a load test on it when it was cold? I would think with your location, and the temp there, that the battery is unable to hold a load when it is cold. Just because the battery shows 12+ volts on a meter doesn't mean that it has the cold cranking amps needed to turn over an engine.

Not cranking when cold?
It cranks when warm?

Around here, anything less than 50F is cold.
Around here, anything more than 70F is warm.

When cold not at all. After roll starting it and getting it running for a while it will crank really slow but still not turn over.

Check grounds from the battery to the engine block.

My auto store checked it with a voltmeter and it tested 12V and 100% charged. They didn't test while cranking though.

Yeah the grounds are connected to the block and i just replaced the terminals and wires off the battery.

12 volts is not enough for a good battery.
They have to put a load on it to test it properly.

Proper testing a battery is putting a load on it (carbon pile) and seeing how long it will supply "volts". I.e.: supplies 300A for (X) minutes before volts fall below 12.

Here's another thing to check:

If you jump a wire from the battery + to the starter little wire, will the starter crank the engine?

They don't need to check it while cranking. Tell them to get out the tester that can do a load test. I have one from snap on that reads the battery voltage, and you can push a switch on this tester to do a load test. While load testing it, you can see the condition of the battery on the meter.

@abecedarian yeah they tried that it didnt work.
@Yes thats what they did. I watched them and it tested over the cold cranking thing post on the battery.
It's not the battery, starter, connections, or fuses... Next?
