I've got a noise from the rear-end, kind of a quiet clunk from time to time. I jacked it up last weekend, can't hear it when it's on jackstands and in gear but the yoke on the 3rd has rotational play; a good 1-1.5". I've got a line here locally on a complete diff out of a 4runner with a v6, he doesn't know the gear ratio. I want to use the 3rd out of it and hopefully the axles, my backplates are shot on my truck. I did the clutch right after I bought it, and noticed it had some play then, as well the hanger bearing was on it's way out so I knew at some point it was going to happen.
Having only owned this truck (and my first Toyota) since Feb, just want to know it sounds like I'm chasing after the right thing..thanks - JC.

what you can do to get rid of the slop is tighten the pinion nut with a 1/2" air impact gun as tight as it will go.
