OK, this has been bothering me for a while, ever since I have owned this truck, you could turn on all the accsessories (sp?) and the engine idle wont go up. You know to make up for the parasitic loss!

Before the engine was rebuilt, this wasnt that bad of a problem cause the truck idled at 1k RPM when warm. Now that it idles at 800, when the ac is on, and I am comming to a stop light with my foot on the brakes! The RPMS drop to about 450-500! Its only died on me once, but my feeling is...I have a new motor, my AC blows freezing cold, !! I want it to work right.

At night its the worst, because I have the headlights on! So I cannot run the AC at night!!

Now, If I keep my foot on the gas pedal just a little bit, everything works! The AC compressor will shut on and off when its supposed to, ETC. I am just stumped!!

i ll be the first to say it "search" sorry had too! first what kind of truck is it auto/manual 22re/ V6 ? but actually you should try searching like vacuum leaks or something like that. or try advancing the timing just a tad or check your idle screw and see if its where its supposed to be.

AC idle up VCC... has 2 vaccum lines and a 2-wire plug going to it. the one on my 22re is screwed up and it does the same thing... but mine will randomly work, and then randomly it dont

First of I have searched, and second, all my info is in my sig!! (that kinda sounds rude, but its not meant that way!! )

Where is the AC idle up VCC located??

Could you possibly take a pic??

find the plastic screw on the side of the intake manifold:

...
and turn the a/c on and adjust the screw to the correct idle speed then turn the a/c off and make sure the idle is normal.
if the idle speed rises, check what 'bleeder suggested.

well if the VCC is malfunctioning, then that wont do a darned thing

well the thing is, when the lights are on, it doesnt idle up, when any type of load is happening (turning my 37s for instance), the engine never idles up!! Does the AC Idle up VCC control all of the idleing up?

ummmm, it would probably help to press the gas a little to turn those 37"s, I don't think the idle's gunna compensate for that


if the lights make it idle down considerably, I'd start looking at the charging system. Mine dips about 50 RPMs when I tuen the head lights on, and about anoth 100 RPMs when I flip on the 100watt'ers on my bumper; I'd say if you're see'n it drop more than that, you've probably got chraging problems, cause I know my stock alternator aint that strong

the AC VCC only acuates when the AC clutch engages; the hoses that come from it and go to the valve that Abe pointed out idles up for the AC and the PS (if equpied)


oh and I just noticed, I belive the correct acronym is VSV, not VCC

The VSV for the A/C only operates when the A/C is on. There should also be a VSV screwed into the top of the power steering pump to boost idle when steering boost is used at idle. If those are not working, then check the vacuum nipples for clogging, my '85 lines were all plugged with carbon. There is no idle up for alternator load, unless you rig up something with the A/C VSV. Since I have removed my A/C, I use that VSV via the A/C switch to make a manual idle-up valve.

To test the idle up valve, bypass the VSV and hook the intake line to the idle up input and see if the idle rises. May need to adjust the screw on top of the idle up valve.

Okay, I messed with the knob on the VSV, so Im thinking a line might be plugged!

Ill bypass it and see what happens!

And I have a newer alternator, but I want to send it to that guy that rebuilds them in california or wherever!
