Like the title says, I'm making my next motor a N/A high compression 22RE, with the 20R head....I think. Which is why I'm here. I'm looking for some info...again.

I want to build a ridiculously stupid, and un-needed motor. This low compression motor I just built is boring, and I don't have the patience to finish the turbo set up. The article says I must use a 20R head on a 22R "early block"...what is an "early block"? Which years? This motor will be going into a 92 2WD drift truck. I don't know much about the "early" and "late" model 22R's, I just thought that from 85-95, all the motors were pretty much the same.

Can someone help me out with which 20R head and 22R block I will need to search for? I would like to get this project started.

And I am kind of in a hurry to at least find out which year head/block I need to buy...because I can get a perfect 20R head fully assembled right now for $75 bucks. Its from an 1980

also go to google and type in "20r head on 22r block" and you get a lot of results

i don't think it matters what 20R head you have. just remember that without serious modification you'll be going to a carbed engine.

i believe an early 22r block is from 81-84,
and i think any 20r head will fit those years. dont quote me though

All Toyota 20R - 22R - 22RE engines use the same crankshaft and connecting rods. To accommodate the different deck heights, Toyota changed the compression height (piston pin location).
