Newbie 1987 truck question...

I have a chance to buy a 1987 turbo model with hardly any rust and the body is real straight, decent tires and everything works. It was a daily driver until the timing belt tensioner broke, is this a major fix on these? What should I look out for? Thanks.

I beleive you mean timing chain. If the timing chain broke there is a good chance that the valves will be trashed in the head. 22 series engines are what is called interference engines. The timing chain guide on the driver's side of the engine is made of plastic. Aftermarket kits have fixed this problem by using a metal guide. If you are willing to take a risk on the engine this truck may be a good deal. Finding a body with no rust is a hard task.
