New Toy

Well here is the new 91 Pickup I got the other day. I decided to get rid of the 90 I had that was falling apart. Let me know what you guys think. I runs and drives great other than the fact that it sometimes slips out of 1st and 2nd gear and will not go into 3rd. She has 144,000 on the engine and the only rust is on the drivers door and the drivers bedside below the taillight. I picked it up in springfield, IL for 1300$$

definitely a nice truck.
as for the shifter problem, check into replacing the gearshift lever bushings. marlin crawler has a replacement set that is allegedly better than stock- can't say for sure since I haven't bought it, but the reviews are glowing.
also, take a look at the valve cover and figure out and fix the oil seepage. probably just needs a new gasket. and maybe a new PCV valve.

HAHA. Its cool abe. No blame on anybody but me. I am going to order the bushing kit from marlin tomorrow and see how it goes. And Im going to to get the valve cover gasket and pcv valve and go from there. I really like the truck so far. I was trying to rebuild a 90 before I found this one. It was a heap and needed a lot of . So I found this one and decided that it was better to invest my money into something that needed a fraction of what the other one did. Thanks for everything guys. Ill keep you updated on my progress.

Yeah, he has the DLX model. My old '91 truck was the same. The DLX was the base model, no bells and whistles like the SR5 models....

Yeah no tach yet but I'm working on getting one. I have a trans temp gauge that im going to return and put the money towards a new tach. I don't mind not having power anything. Its so small that you can just reach over and open the door and put the window down. What were all the different trim levels. Was it just the DLX and SR5 or was there another one?

Looks like you have a solid platform for a nice truck. Hope she treats you better than your other one. Sorry to be off-topic.

No worries. I hope so too. Im going to do all the preventative maintenance to the truck before anything has a chance to start getting bad or giving me problems. Thanks for the compliments.

yeah great idea on driving the truck fo a while make sure its not gonna cause any more issues... instead of dumping cash into mods then having something major go..

that is a really nice looking platform you got there..
fix that little bit of rot before it gets bad and then rust proof the underneath...
its very important to wash your truck in the winter helps prevent rust..
tranny from a junkyard and do the clutch while its out.. a tranny jack and some heavy duty raqhet straps helped me do that solo.

Hey everyone thanks for the comments. Yeah Im going to drive it for a bit and see if anything else surfaces . Yes it does have power steering. I have to fix the idler pulley cause the bearing is going bad. Yeah, the rust is going to be one of the first things that I fix. My 90 Has rot everywhere. I mean everywhere because of neglect. Im not going to let that happen to this one. Im going to take the bed off and prep the back of the cab and bedliner it. I dont think that im going to use herculiner. I think I might get get reflex or Line x on it. I appreciate all the great suggestions and comments guys.
Thanks
