New rebuilt 22re high oil pressure
I have searched and cannot find a definate range of acceptable oil pressure. I rebuilt a 22re myself for the first time as well as did the sr5 gauge cluster swap. I installed the larger sending unit and hooked up the wire to the center pin and the gauge was maxed out. I installed an aftermarket gauge from autozone that read 60 at idle and 80 at half throttle. Is this normal? I'm having a hard time troubleshooting because its a new engine gauge cluster and sending unit. And I don't know the propper psi.

Are your gauges grounded/shorted?
I have an autometer gauge and it reads about 25 PSI at idle and 50 ish at WOT, which I think is about right if you follow the "10 PSI per 1,000 RPM" rule you see in the thread above and many other places.
I think your gauges/senders have the issue.
What weight oil are you using? I've used 10W30 for years in warm California....are you in a cold climate?
Does the pressure go down once motor is warm?

The stock sensor should be grounded by the block. The aftermarket gauge doesn't use electricity, just pressure in a little tube that goes to the gauge. I just built this engine, my first the gauges seem to agree that my oil pressure is ridiculous. Any ideas?

My gauge says I'm ay 80 psi at start them around 40 after the engine has warmed. I'm running 20w50 because I got a free case of it when I purchased the truck. I also don't trust this cheapo aftermarket gauge. If it dropped to 5 I'd worry

After the cam break in I ran my 4runner good and hard through the gears and after the third test drive and all the tweaking of timing and such my gauge shows 20 at idle and 60 under load. I'm going to reinstall the SR5 sender and see what the cluster says.
