New project

I lost my current 86 4runner in a head on collision with a vw jetta on Monday during ice storm. Last month I rebuilt the 22re, installed new clutch and complete brand new exhaust. Due to the fact that it was totaled out before and this time is not covered I have chosen to find a good doner vehicle for the engine, trans, and all. I also have a complete sr5 interior that's in great shape too so I don't want that to go to waste. I found a 89 v6 auto in great shape for 1100. The engine had low compression and was taken out and torn down. I plan on removing the trans, tcase, wire harness, computer, and all other unneeded items and swapping the good stuff out of my wrecked 4runner. I know I have to cut the motor mounts off the frame and swap them to the v 6 frame but that's not a big deal to me. I should be able to come out of this with a pretty good truck with all the stuff I want on it.

Well I finally got the truck put together the way I want it and I love what I ended up with. I did have to do way more than I initially thought I would. Cutting out and swapping the motor mounts on the frame was pretty easy. I had to swap every bit of the wiring harness except for the tail gate harness as it was the same. I also had no idea how much of a pain to swap fuel lines would be but once I realized how easy the body bolts came out I just lifted the right side up and got the line off. I took it for its first road test and everything seems to be good except for a few small issues. All in all I'm pretty happy to have a drivable 4runner again. Here's a few pics of finished project. I still have to wash her up and clean interior good.

Oh and I have a question, for the rear cargo area is it supposed to have the padded rubber mat under the carpet? Seems like running carpet over the mat makes things too thick.

That turned out great. 4runners did not have padding under the carpet.

Enjoy your new truck!

Thanks , I always thought it was weird to have carpet over the rubber mat. Today was her first long trip as my drive to nashville is an hour long commute and it went pretty smooth. Needs shocks bad and speedo cable but I can steal these items from the wrecked truck. It felt good to be driving a yota again, I love my powerstroke but have not been loving the cost of diesel.
