New member of the family...
Well, ever since my wife totaled my 3rd gen 4Runner (complete with a TRD supercharger) a couple years back I’ve been seriously looking to replace it with a first Generation 4runner. Its been a long hard search but in the end I think I found a great truck that will be in our family for a long time.
The guy I bought it from was in the military down south. The truck has been in Florida all its life and it shows well. He was the second owner, never been in an accident and a clean carfax. No rust anywhere! Here are some of the things it has on it…
-New Timing chain, gears and new valve cover
-New oil pump and water pump
-Brand new radiator
-Replaced the factory clutch fan with a brand new SPAL electric fan and a custom mounting bracket
-New Optima Red Top battery and replaced the factory wiring to the starter and engine power block with high quality 4 gauge wire
-New Bilstein heavy duty shocks all around
-Installed leveling spring in the rear to get rid of the sag
-Brand new exhaust from the cat back
-New paint job with base coat clear coat, replaced the windshield at the same time
-31 x 10.5 x 15 Mickey Thompson Baja Claws
-AC blows cold; converted R134a
-New black Rock crawler wheels
-Replaced tailgate cover with diamond plate
-Sprayed truck bed liner in rear of truck to include inside the rear quarter panels
-Blocked off the EGR system with a kit from LC Engineering
-New brake master cylinder off a FJ 60 which has a larger bore size (1” compared to the factory 4Runner of ¾”)
-Brand new calipers, rotors, rear wheel cylinders, drums, shoes and pads and added stainless steel braided lines along with new bearings and seals
-New 90 amp alternator
-Brand new Safariland snorkel
-Run-Cool louvers in hood (they decrease under hood temps by thirty degrees and prevent overheating in the most extreme conditions)
-Brand new upgraded sparkplug wires, distributor cap and rotor with a kit from LC Engineering that also includes and nice mounting bracket that keeps the wires organized and away from the heat of the exhaust
-Kenwood deck
-Qlogic kick panels with Kicker 6 ½ component set powered by a Rocksford Fosgate “Punch 45” amplifier that’s mounted under the driver’s seat (also threw in another brand new matching component set with the sale)
-No leaks whatsoever
-Runs very strong
I’ve got a few plans for it but I’m not going to go too overboard. I’m not interested in a SAS conversion, nor do I want to rock crawl with it. My lifestyle is more mountain biking, hiking, camping, motocross, rock climbing etc. Trust me, we’ve got plenty of ORV trails where I’m from so this thing will get its fair share of trouncing through the woods of northern Michigan. Can’t wait to get it stuck for the first time..lol.
First things I want to do are performance mods. I need a little more oomph so I'm looking to maybe do a mild cam, headers etc. Any suggestions?

I know I know, I really wanted a manual but I just couldn’t pass this truck up. I’ll just have to deal with the auto (for now).
Snorkel still needs to be routed...

Very nice 4runner by the way. I wish mine was that clean. I have the same tires just 33x12.5s

Thanks again for the compliments guys. I get looks everywhere I go and my girls love all the attention...lol. Next year I'm planning on getting a Can-Back soft top so I know it's get even more looks!
Like I mentioned, I think I'm going to get a Cam and headers for it. It currently doesn't have a Cat on it so I may do a hi-flow cat as well. I just don't wan't this thing sounding too loud but at the same time I want to get a little more performance out of it.
I'm taking it up north this weekend on it's first inagural offroad excursion. :-)
