new guy. new toy
hey guy's, new to the site, I just picked up an 87 runner turbo from a guy, it's got 220,000 on the clock, but its nice and clean, that's why i bought it. the problem i got with it is that he had the turbo removed cause it was shot, he replaced the ecm with a 22re and the exhaust manifold along with the o2 sensor. and the air box, but it still don't wanna run right, it does run good at idle, but under load as your driving down the road,it does not shift right, and after awhile it starts buckin and chugging and sometimes stalls, all i own are toyota's but never had a turbo engine, but it almost seems like the air flow sensor or the throttle position sensor are fighting each other, when it does start acting up, the rpm's fluctuate up and down a few hundred at idle. would it be easier to swap out the engine and tranny to a 22re and a 5 speed or maybe its something simple? I only have time on the weekends to mess with it, if i'm lucky, i'm sure i can't be the only one out there with this problem, any idea's would help, thanks in advance!

I do not know the turbos, but would suggest giving the sensors a good cleaning, get all of the carbon removed from the plenum and hoses, check for air leaks, and a good overall tune up.
