Noob here just stopping by.


I currently own a 1987 toyota pickup, a little 22r . An awesome hand me down from my parents a while back that i've managed to fall in love with and have held onto ever since. I get offers for the little guy all the time. I'll post pics as soon as can get to it.


I've been searching everywhere for a place to buy parts for it, specifically looking for a bumper, lift kit, and a possible route for some additional power in the engine.

I'm hoping this forum has links to a parts site since most sites i've come across don't offer much else besides domestic truck parts.

One more thing, if anyone has any advice as to what direction to go as far as modification go's. I'm not new to modding cars (have a modified 350z) but i don't really know much about my truck. It's pretty stock with the exception of the sport exhaust. I really want to lift it first, but with the lack of power i'm wondering if that's such a good idea

p.s. i posted this in the intro section, but it's dead over there. Plus i guess this is where i'll be hanging out the most since this section of the forum seems to cover my make and model.

get use to no power. At most you can add a carb and a cam but anything more will require serious engin work. Suspension wise downey has some pretty awsome kits. Lifts are for city dwellers. You need travel!

yea i figured there was nothing much you could do to an n/a application with small displacement.

He means that just making the truck taller doesn't do anything for you in terms of off road capablity. Off road capablity is more a function of how far the suspension can travel (up/down).

Assuming its a 4x4?

You have the same rig as me. The possibilities are endless w/ these trucks. You can make them into anything that fits just about any of your offroad desires.

If you're looking to increase offroad-ability susptantialy and want to do it on a budget. A very common route is balljoint spacers (upfront) and longer shackles for the rear springs. 1-2" body lift if you so desire (fit bigger tires).

I reccomend 2" body lifts not for added height and to 'look cooler' but it makes working on everything under the truck SOOOOO much easier.

Throw on some 33x10.5 or 12.5's a rear Autolocker (Detroit, Lockrite etc) some sliders, rear bumper, front bumper, a winch

And you have yourself rig that will take you most places you probably never thought of going.

Check out TC's 4runner. He's kept his rig pretty much stock and that thing takes him everywhere =)

the OP has a 2wd.. he wants a lift cause it looks cool...and it will on that truck with some nice tires.... it will get you and what ever from a to b just fine ...but if you want an offroader take those offers and upgrade to a 4x4..

^^ hehe, o yea sure NOW IT WORKS...jp, i guess i was just not checking the links well enough after the search. Anyway thanks for the help. I'll be looking into adding about 2 to 3 inches to the truck, nothing too crazy. I want to do it the right way, so i'm looking for Travel not city dweller status.


I feel like such a noob here though, my thing is sports cars, but i have to admit that sadly i don't know much about my truck, but that's why i'm here because i'm looking forward to learning what the best set up for what i want to do is. I can see myself taking my truck out camping sometime for fun or just wanting it as a toy and a simple cheap lift isn't going to be cutting it.

my main concern is adding a competent suspension along with a bumper and a skid plate.
