New 4Runner and new problems
Just another 4runner. (3rd one this year) 1992 4wd Auto and it has a few problems.
Ok here are the error codes I'm getting: 14, 24, 31, 41
Problems I'm seeing:
Speedometer, tachometers stop working sometimes. I think I need to change the speed sensor.
Parking brake light comes on and off intermittently while driving
Over drive light flashes
Transmission will not shift from first to send. I have to manually shift. I believe I need to change one or all of the solenoids.
So any advice? I went to the sealer ship and they wanted about $1000 for 4 new solenoids. I think I'll head the the pick and pull.

The brake light can either be low brake fluid in the MC reservoir or the parking brake is not in all the way, wiggling while driving and causing the switch to partially close the circuit.

Ok brake like is now off. The had to top the fluid off.
More info on the shifting. I have to manual shift from L to D. Then when I stop I need to put in back into L. So from 1 - 2 and 2 - 1 I have to shift. All other gears seem to shift ok.

Its a pain and involves at least dropping the tanny pan. But im sure theres a way to check the solenoids. Have a look in the FSM. You can check em at the pick n pull.
And you probably wont need all of them. sounds like the first and second ones are the only ones shot.

If you know the exact tranny in your rig the answer should be above.
Just so ya know the Search button has never failed me. I just like to do my part in not cluttering up the forums.

Ok I've pulled solenoid #1. Took me about an hour and I took my time. I tired to test it by connecting it the battery. Sparks flew. I'm going to take it into my friends shop and have him test it.

More Code wows
So I drove a bit on the highway and the speedometer worked for 19 miles then stopped. I also got the A/T Temp light. I think the ATF I used is low quality. I'll get some better stuff and add a cooler.
Also on this test drive I found that some of the lower gears seem to shift in odd places. It does shift by itself were as before I changes solenoid #1 The O/D light also flashed a few times then stopped
I did see this bit of frayed wires. It is located near the battery. Looks like some melted electrical tape. I 'm going to clean that up before I fix anything else. I figure it might be causing some problems.

I'm now getting code 63 and code 42. I'm focusing on code 42, (Defective No. 1 vehicle speed sensor). I've found the speed sensor #2 in the transmission. I've read that speed sensor #1 is in the dash and I've got to remove the instrument panel to get to it. Before I go ripping the dash apart can anyone tell me if I'm looking in the right place?

I did get the speed sensor working properly but then broke the mounting part off. I didn't have the sensor pushed in all the way when I was cranking down on the bolt. I'll use some angle iron and create an bracket to hold it in.
All is running well now, no over heating or slipping gears, speedometer works. On to the speakers,
