new 2nd Gen Runner owner

What can I say I am in love
Hey all I am new to the board and what a great board and knowledge base it is.
So I am a long time Chevy owner why? Because I can fix them but they are a monstrosity of over kill. Well my 99 suburban threw a rod and I refuse to wrench on the thing any longer. I am going to junk it.
Now since I had no car I had to get one quick to get to work. So I found the 94 Runner and bought it right away. It's a 5 speed 3.0 and I must say its not slow compared to any of my Chevys
The car needs paint but has zero rust I mean zero the engine was spotless w 183k. I am very pleased and love this truck I can't believe I was missing out for so long!!
.I know I am new but I have some questions
I have done a minor tune up, plugs, filters, radiator flush, changed fuel filter. So the old oil was filthy, old coolant was black. I mean really black it has stayed clean since the flush. The old fuel filter had gravel in it, dirtiest fuel filter I have ever seen.
So now I ask what else do I do?
Some oil leaks. Valve covers, slowed it down a ton but I will change those gaskets.
Oil pan leak? I think I have an oil pan leak. Not sure if it is the rear seal. The leak is super slow as I tightened the bolts to the pan. The rear pan bolt was previously stripped. I.assume this is where my leak is. All be it small. I am assuming this is an oil pan leak because the front of the pan is clean, cakes if oil only extends half way down the length of the pan, so its not the timing cover?and the block below the heads is spotless. Since the bolt was stripped I am assuming the engine has been worked on and the heads had Orange sealer where they meet the block, I doubt Toyota uses Orange sealer at the factory so could this be from the factory head gasket recall? Anyway to know if my vin was included in the head recall?
Ok on the fan cowllng it is marked the timing belt was replaced when the car had 99k now with 183k should I be thinking of replacing this as well ?

Did I miss anything?

Thank you everyone
Will post picts tomorrow

As far as recalls go you might be able to go here: www.toyota.com/owners/sscinfo
and be able to get some information about your vehicle.

As far as the timing belt goes I suppose you could change it, but i probably wouldn't mess with it until it broke, although if it looked really bad i would probably change it also.

All in all it seems like you're on the right track. Lets bump the thread and see what others have to say.. lol

Toyota recommends that the timing belt be changed every 60k miles. Does the block look clean right above where the oil pan is leaking? If its not clean then it could be that your valve covers are leaking and going all the way down to your pan. Thats what happened to mine. You can also call your local toyota dealership and give them your vin and thay will tell you if any recalls have been fixed on your rig, especially the headgasket recall. Congratulations on becoming a toyota owner. Its addictive. Also welcome to Yotatech!

Yep its very addicting
And yes it is a bit dirty along the pan half way from mid block all along the pan flang on both sides
The valve cover were loose and tightening them did help a ton what bugged me about my covers were they were leaking and I could only get to so few bolts due to the air intake
So my reaction with the truck is :
Fix all leaks to the best of my ability Haha

If its every 60k then I need to crack mine open and look at it I'm guessing it has 120k on it ?

I dont know how mechanically inclined you are but I chose to take mine to the dealership to have the timing belt done. It cost me about $500 but they did a couple other things.

500 is pretty fair I would pay that if the tinkered with my valves
I am no master mechanic but I gave done similar work before. This would be my first timing belt on a Toyota but not my first timing chain
