Need opinions on gears and locker
I've got a 91' Yota pickup 4x4 V-6, 5spd, factory 4.10 gears. I put a 3" body lift and 33x12.50 Toyo A/T's on it. I also have a stock open rear diff. The truck works great, but I miss the power I had w/ 31's. Do you guys think I should buy the locker (Lock Right) first, or the gears (4.56 or 4.88?). My mechanic buddy will install the gears for payment in beer, so the price difference isn't that much. The truck is my woods truck, but mostly driven on the street. I want more power and traction, just don't know which direction to go first.

Its a lots less work to tear into the diffs once, and do gears, and lockers. You can buy used 4.88 gears from a 92-95 truck/ 4runner with an V6 auto with 31 tires from the factory. An decent auto locker can be had for $300.
If you find it a dog, and that annoys you, that's ground for regearing in my books, but lockers and amazing offroad.
